Galvin Library Tour - June 2008 (13)
Only a stone’s throw from the Office of Undergraduate Admission, the Paul V. Galvin Library is students' favorite place to study and do research on campus. -
The Argonne Rube Goldberg Machine Contest - March 2008 (12)
The Saturday before last my friends and I headed to Chicago's famous Navy Pier to check out how six different teams of Illinois high-schoolers chose to make hamburgers with the works - in 20 steps or MORE. -
First Week of Class - Spring 2008 (30)
IIT's students, including about fifty new students, flooded back to campus last week for a fresh semester of studying, snacking, studying, and much more. Check out documents of one student's path below! -
International Festival Evening Performance (9)
There were hundreds of IIT students who packed the HUB Auditorium to watch their peers perform at the 32nd annual International Festival. The evening performance consisted of songs, dances, and skits from the various cultures represented at IIT. The evening concluded with a Fashion show--displaying traditional wear from the various cultures and the presentation of awards for the top performaces. -
President's Inauguration - and Related Festivities... (24)
Last Tuesday, October 30, Dr. John L. Anderson was inaugurated as the seventh president in IIT's history. Over a thousand people from near and far attended the moving ceremony in the Hermann Union Building's auditorium, while hundreds of others had to tune in via "satellite". The ceremony was followed by a catered lunch - featuring the craftwork of Chicago's best and varied restaurants - and then by...the annual pumpkin toss! -
Columbus Day Open House (10)
Our office celebrated Columbus Day with a hundred of you, and your parents, who came to campus from near and far for a day of information, fun, and even flavored coffee creamers. Highlights included a campus tour and discussions about the admission process, academics, financial aid and student life. -
Afternoon Delight (8)
It's eighty and sunny on this Friday afternoon in Chicago - "unseasonably warm", as they say - so I thought I'd take a short stroll around campus to see what folks are up to. For the most part, they're taking advantage of this beautiful weather! -
9.21.07 - Homecoming Week Activities - By Marc (20)
Homecoming week ended with a carnival and a homecoming dance. IIT's Homecoming Carnival was sponsored by our very own Union Board and many of the sororities and fraternities. There were t-shirts, food, and tons of exciting attractions, free to the entire student body. The homecoming dance took place on that Saturday, but it wasn't like your boring old high school homecoming. The Pritzker Club was converted into an actual club with lights and a DJ. Free food and glow sticks were provided. I'll just let the pictures do most of the talking. (For more talking on other matters, click on my blog, to the right!) -
9.21.07 - Homecoming Week Murals (8)
Last week the IIT community busted out with Homecoming activities, including varsity volleyball and soccer games, and a lip sync competition, scavenger hunt, and improv comedy performance - talk about Scarlet Fever!! The festivities concluded with a campus-wide carnival and dance, the former of which featured a vertical wind tunnel skydiving simulator ("the hit" of the party, as you may have guessed), bungee trampolining, sumo suits, and much, much more. Unfortunately, I didn't make it out to all the events listed above (see Marc's blog for coverage of those), but I did get a chance to snap shots of some of the students' spirited murals, which graced the entrances of the academic buildings for the duration of Homecoming Week. -
7.27.07 - Summer IPRO Day (10)
Each semester, the work of our IPRO (Interprofessional Project) teams culminates in an event that celebrates the students' accomplishments through presentation and exhibit. Five teams presented at last Friday's Summer IPRO Day event, which was well-attended by students, staff, and faculty alike, contributing to the portfolio of experiences that shapes the IIT graduate. 7.20.07 - Experiment in Architecture (15)
Last week, sixteen high school juniors and seniors met in Chicago for IIT’s Summer Architecture Program: "Experiment in Architecture." The program concluded with a reception for students and their families in S.R.Crown Hall, a National Historic Landmark on the IIT campus and home to the College of Architecture. Each student presented 2-D and 3-D representations of their capstone project: a house “commissioned by” a concert cellist, his gardener wife, and their two children, designed within a certain set of geographic circumstances and limitations in mind.
